Almaty FIRGeneral InformationAlmaty FIR covers southern airspace of Kazakhstan. The FIR includes Almaty international airport (UAAA, АLA) and local airports of Boralday (UAAR, BJX), Taldykorgan (UAAT, TDK), Balkhash (UAAH, BHX). ATC is provided in both Russian and English languages. Vertical separation rule is semicircular metric CVSM separation. Since 21st of November, 2007 aircrafts entering the airspace of People Republic of China via SARIN, BAMAN, RULAD and REVKI intersections must climb or descend to the metric RVSM level in the airspace of Republic of Kazakhstan. Aircrafts entering Kazakh airspace must climb or descend to a metric CVSM level in Chinese airspace. Remember that pilots must use feet altimeter in China, though ATC clearances are given in meters. The high status of the leading airport of the Republic makes it necessary to provide services that are continually improved and modern. The airport is situated in 18 km to the north-west of city center. After reconstruction in 1998 the airport was awarded a status of International Airport. Runway 05/23 is equipped with the ILS system meeting all requirements on ICAO CAT I and CAT II meteorological minimas respectively. Runway size is 4400x45 m. In 2008 a new runway will be put into service. Its size is 4500x60 and it will provide ICAO CAT I and CAT III minimas.
